YOUR FIRST VISIT

WHAT TO EXPECT ON YOUR FIRST VISIT

The Osteopath will ask you about your medical history in detail, and then you will be examined using many tests, some similar to conventional medicine, including a thorough assessment of your musculo-skeletal system.

You will be asked to remove your outer garments so a full assessment can be made considering areas of strain, immobility, or injury. Once this has been completed and your lifestyle, posture, work and sport activities considered you will be advised of the osteopath's findings and given a proposed treatment plan.

The Acupuncturist will also take a full medical history, to ascertain the flow of energy, pulses may be examined as well as looking at the tongue. Their skill lies in their ability to make a traditional diagnosis from what is often a complex pattern of disharmony. The exact pattern and degree of disharmony is unique to each individual so each person will receive a personalised treatment plan.

Patients will be asked to remove their outer garments before each treatment so the acupuncturist can quickly and easily locate points which may be on any part of the body or limbs. They will then have very fine needles inserted either near the area of pain or sometimes at a distance from it. The needles are so fine it is almost impossible to feel pain on insertion, however, when the acupuncture point is stimulated you will feel a slight tugging, pulling or cramping sensation.

Acupuncture needles are made according to exacting quality control procedures. They are all sterilised and are disposed of after a single application.
